HE WROTE: The Book
Well the great plot we had for Agnes has completely fallen apart. At least today. And, of course, Jennifer decides she has to fly today to New York City to party and hob nob. So I have the master copy of the manuscript and am trying to write an action scene where the antagonist in the scene is off-stage, which is a bit difficult to do and have effective conflict.
And then I'm looking ahead to the first turning point, which should come at around 35,000 words, and we're at roughly 20,000 and I'm going "huh?". And what the heck is the second turning point? And the third?
The good part is all my questions will be waiting for her in email when she finally checks it later tonight. Hehe. Of course she emailed me at 4 in the morning the other day saying the same thing: she couldn't figure out what her character was doing and why.
It will all work out. But this is the start and stop process of writing. Some days it flies, other days, it's like a statue. Today statue. What that means is re-reading what's been written with an open mind, looking for 'seeds' and also going back over the outline and our notes, looking for different directions.
Looking back at the original outline the book has already changed tremendously. And it will continue to develop.

Some days I read your blogs and think it sounds so easy. And somedays...it doesn't...
You guys are both brillant. It'll work out.
Hey, this is part of the exciting life of a writer.
I read this and think about when I'm going through the same process. I feel like I'm floundering and will never get pointed in the right direction again. Good to know someone knows how to find their way out of the wilderness.
Now I should go finish that danged novella.
