SHE WROTE: San Francisco Coming Right Up
Bob e-mailed me from the airport today. His flight was delayed two hours. And then it's a five hour flight after that. Well, maybe longer since mine's five hours and I'm farther west than he is. Haven't heard back from him but then he probably just landed. Or is circling. And not a happy camper, either, I bet. He booked me on an 8AM flight tomorrow, the rat. It was probably the only one he could get, but he knows I don't do mornings. 8AM. That's like the middle of the night. Plus they expect you to be there early. One damn thing after another.
I'm doing a keynote there that's titled "Romancing the World, Tongue Firmly in Cheek." I have no idea what that means. Of course, these are the same people that billed our collaboration talk as "1+1 = 11: A Romance Writer and a SEAL?" I kind of like the 1 + 1 = 11. You know, the dial goes all the way up to 11? Okay, dating myself severely here. So I have notes for this keynote but we're discarding the "Tongue Firmly in Cheek." Also the "Romancing the World." It's not until Sunday. I have five hours in the air with nothing to do but read two manuscripts for pals, write a 20,000 word novella, write two more scenes for Agnes, and make more notes on Bob's Chase partial. I should certainly be able to knock out a keynote in there, too.

25 Comments:
I know this question is probably stupid because NO ONE comes here, but by any chance are you two going to be coming to the Portland, Oregon area? I'm just curious because we're a big city full of readers and we get bypassed all the time. I sure hope so. I'd love to meet both of you. :)
I have a private theory that no one goes to Portland because the temptation that is Powell's would be too much for them.
Sounds like you're hitting enough places as it is. Good luck and don't worry about the morning thing. If you stay up all night it'll just be really really late. :D
I'm going to have to put my foot down. You are doing too much. I don't see how you are going to keep up a schedule like that and get writing done -- and aren't the livestock up in arms? (legs? tails)
I guess that I'm frightened that this will be your lives from now on, but if that isn't frightening for you, enjoy!
I'm so exhausted reading that partial schedule, that I'm going back to bed.
Oh, and about the keynote: maybe ask whose tongue?
No South Florida stops on that itinerary. We'll just have to bring copies to RWA, squeeze into your workshops and ask you to sign afterward.
What about Indiana? Nobody ever comes to Indiana. *Sniffle*
That's a classic movie now, Jenny, and therefore not the sort of thing that dates you. If you mentioned casually that you saw it in the theater, maybe, but knowing about the dial going to 11 says nothing except that you're familiar with the "cult classics" section of the video store.....
no! what happened to the louisville date?!?!
Thanks for the firm dates, but I'm in Boston and want to know where and when in Boston? Thanks.
Ack! What happened to Louisville!
Also, it's interesting to me that someone else titles your keynote?
chelle
You'd better hope Bob doesn't read the last line of this entry. His head might explode!
Shoshana--
Yeah, I dig Powell's, too. I love to shop, I mean anywhere and anytime and I can do it for days on end. But Powell's is the only place that has beat me at the game. One of these days I'll make it through the whole store!
How is Moot? Is she traveling in the style these days? A special traveling case, perhaps? Because for all her other worldly charms, she is delicate you know! We hope to keep seing her from time to time - she has interview experience now, so it's time to put her to work and help pay her way (she has her pride, you know)
Looked at the travel schedule and still no Philadelphia - NY, NJ, OH, but no PA ??
I can't believe you're not coming to Cold Lake, Alberta. You could arrive right around Maple Flag. John Travolta came last year. And Warf did, too.
And it would really round out your book tour to catch all the military types.
We'll set up a table right there on the tarmac just for you and you can enjoy the breeze in your hair as the F-18's do their fly-bys. It'll be fun.
No really. Fun with a capital F.
I promise.
Philly. Please, please, please, Philly.
Houston! You're completely missing the biggest (and best!) state in the country. Well, except for Alaska. But really, how many books do moose read?
Going to SF with a SEAL? I thought you were going with BOB?
Boston is easy. Just go to the website for the New England Chapter of RWA for all the details: www.booksite.net/necrwa
Information on the conference is there, with the date (April 8, the week DLD is released) and time (not so sure about that; 4:30 perhaps?) and directions (it's actually Natick, not downtown Boston, although there may be an additional event somewhere other than at the conference). The conference requires registration and is primarily for writers, but the booksigning is definitely open to the public, so come for great books, and bring your friends.
Oh, wait, I should have mentioned that a portion of the proceeds from the NECRWA booksigning will go to charity, so you can get DLD, have it signed, AND contribute to a worthy cause.
Oooh here's an idea, when you do your keynote a really tiny version of Stonehenge can be lowered- with Moot laying prone across the top. That would be classic.
Oh, I wish I could go, but my mom's just one day out of the hospital (came home today) and needs a lot of care. Is there any reason you guys aren't coming here for signings or something?
Silly woman, a sea mammal can't keep you safe in an earthquake! But a Ranger will ;-).
earthquakes shmirthquakes...they aren't scary. (california girl talking)...your probably in more danger of seeing snow...haven't seen any white stuff in my yard yet, but it's getting low.
And, Gennita, a Mole Ranger may not be able to protect you from an earthquake, but he sure can dig you out afterwards!
Yea K.C. I'll be there, what a great treat!
I see white stuff in the distance, through the living room window... and it's not just dust from the Wonder Dogs. No earthquakes lately. It's safe to come back to Cali next month ;-)
