SHE WROTE: Twenty-three Hours

. . . until I have to get on a plane. Jeez, as Bob (sp) would say.

Double Indemnity. I have a huge DVD noir collection I just stocked up on to do research for Slow Men, the working title for the Fast Women sequel I MIGHT do: Kiss Me Deadly, Somewhere in the Night, Call Northside 777, Key Largo, The Killing, The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Born to Kill, The Narrow Margin, Clash by Nigh, Crossfire, Dillinger, Out of the Past, The Set-Up, Murder My Sweet, The Asphalt Jungle, Gun Crazy, and the entire Thin Man series but . . . no Double Indemnity. I even got some gangster flicks to even things out that we should probably watch for Agnes: Little Caesar, Angels with Dirty Faces, White Heat, Public Enemy, The Petrified Forest, The Roaring Twenties but . . . no Double Indemnity. Of course, the chances of our being in a bookstore where they're selling it in the next couple of days are pretty good . . .

Bob (sp) is giddy; he finally posted that he's in a significant relationship which would have been a HUGE help earlier, but his significant other understandably does not want her name bandied about the internet and requested that we not speak of her. And now Bob has bandied, and I'm grateful, but if we never see him again, we'll know why.

Actually, we're both giddy. We always are after a huge fight which I'm hoping is our last one until the tour is over because they're really wearing. I can do tiffs and snappish asides during a tour, but not those Big Bang things. The good news is, I now have something to sell on eBay. I fired off an enraged e-mail to Bob and then went out to cool off and get some of the last minute stuff done, and I was gone for a couple of hours. But I forgot to tell Bob. So he thought I was sulking and not answering him, so he sent a string of angrier and angrier e-mails and then left an enraged message on my cellphone which he has since apologized for. The thing is, I never use the cellphone and currently cannot find it, so I haven't heard the message yet, but I'll find it in time for the tour. The fight's over so we're okay no matter what he said, but I'm thinking, "I have this thing on my cellphone. I can download it into my iPod. I can sell this on eBay." Or maybe not. It depends on what he yelled at me. Sometimes he speaks the truth in anger, and frankly, he knows way too much about me.

But at least the storm is over. Looking back, it was probably not a good idea for me to post all that PRO bootcamp stuff for two days, but it was better than "Bob is bastard" followed by a list of horrible things that should happen to him. There was no way that was going to make us look good. And it wasn't 99.8% his fault. More like 90%. You know, we should both probably wipe our hard drives before we get on the plane. If those e-mails ever got out, nobody would talk to either one of us ever again. It's Godzilla vs. the Thing, if Godzilla screamed like a redneck with no boundaries and the Thing yelled like a Green Beret from the Bronx.

But as Mollie always says, moving on now . . .

Twenty-two hours. Must go clean the guest room. For Bob (sp).

Erm, I hesitate to mention this but you said earlier that you'd packed your cellphone in the bag that goes under your seat (presumably so that you can turn it off before the plane takes off?) so maybe it's there. But if I were you, I would just delete that voicemail without listening to it, or get Mollie to do it. Some things are better not known.

Slow Men is an excellent title and your DVD collection sounds eminently borrowable. No Hitchcock though. Any reason? What about Nick and Nora? Or is that too light? Someone suggested that earlier today (apologies, I looked for your name but my browser refused to co-operate so I couldn't find it) or has your collaboration with Bawb meant that you're going for something darker this time? I don't mean because "in the darkness, there is death" or anything like that, but in the Q&A, you said that you entered the collaboration wanting to know how to write action and now Bawb's taught you how to do violence (in a writing sense, I mean), I wondered whether you're going to experiment with something different for the sequel?

Wanted to wish you guys a safe trip. You may still wonder but the rest of us are secure in the knowledge that you guys are on to something SO GREAT!
You'll see as the tour goes along.

Wow! Fabulous list of movies. Now I want to see all of them and I've scheduled a huge block of writing time for this week, plus I have to squeeze in time for a big best seller I heard about. (grin)
Posting the PRO thing was good. I even had a question about Pro go to my website email from one of the bloggers. We chatted about it last night and I feel like I've made another writing friend.
It's great that you're helping other writers to learn from you and your experiences, and about what RWA has to offer. You've always been generous with your time and your knowledge and we "little guys" love you for it. Have a super fantastic tour!

It is really helpful to have an inside view of someone else's writing pains. That's the great thing about collaboration, at least you're not suffering alone. ;)

This tour is going to be fabulous! You've gotten the angst out of the way and can concentrate on receiving the accolades :)

I hope the tour starts off well tomorrow. The loss of the favorite shoes sounds like a wonderful reason to buy some new ones. That is, if there is every a reason needed to buy new shoes;)

I'll we following the tour with interest. Can't wait 'til y'all get to Richmond in June especially if the no caffeine, no sugar, no beer, only packed two shirts, and hyped on allergy medicines is still holding out. If not, let us know and we'll have everything you need here. Either way it'll be a great time, I'm sure.

I keep checking to see if the tour is going to be in my neck of the woods. So far, no go. However, this has not stopped me from doing a countdown until I can get my hands on a copy of DLD.

I remember Jenny saying back in January that April 4th would be here before we knew and she was right. Of course, HWSW, has kept us all enthralled and entertained and made the time fly by.

One final note, I read most of the PRO stuff and I'm not a writer or even plan on trying to be writer some day. I am a ravenous reader and I also do quite a bit of work related writing...newsletters, etc.

I loved reading about the hows, and whys of your collaboration and your writing process. It's made me think about my preparation process for the articles and newsletters I write at work and I know it has made me a more discerning reader. All that and it entertains too!

Look, I've done it again - you said The Thin Man series and I skimmed right by it. Promise to read more carefully in future.

I hope the lines are long and the days are short. Or something like that.
I hope to get to see you and Bawb and Moot.

If Amazon.com doesn't show up with the book tomorrow, I'm going to scream. And then go hunt it down at our one bookstore in town!

Best of luck on the tour. You are well loved by your fans, and with the "I want to meet Bob attraction"....well you'll be busy!

I am honored to be a Cherry Bomb!
We will all be thinking of you!

At least you can shorten Godzilla to God!!

Have a great trip and we'd have never have known you were fighting if you (sp) hadn't mentioned it. Just the same way we think you really did clean your desk like you promised :)

Jenny, now that you've even ventured the idea that you might possibly consider maybe doing a sequel to Fast Women, named Slow Men, your legions of fans are going to run with it. The news will spread everywhere -- Hey, did you hear? Crusie's doing a sequel to Fast Women? You've created buzz even if you didn't mean to.

You'll come back from the tour to find an email from your editor with the deadline by which she figures Slow Men will be on her desk.

The news now has a life of its own, I tell ya!

Of course, if you combine that exciting sequel news with the morsel about Bob's relationship, you might finally divert people from asking if you two are together. Now everyone will want to know when Slow Men will be released and they'll probably include Debbie in gift giving. In which case, mentioning the sequel was a brilliant tactical maneuver. *g*

Yes, the knowledge of Debbie certainly could have stopped all the pregnancy speculations but who could blame her? I would hate for my life to be out there for all the world to see just because my husband was famous. Oh but wait, if he were famous I could probably pay all my bills on time plus fund the retirement account so why would I care what anyone knew about me? I'm getting less sympathetic by the minute!

Definately have Mollie delete the message without anyone listening to it. Don't we all wish for kindnes and understanding after we loose control and then are ashamed of ourselves? Be sweet.

Go ahead and fight, it works for you (clears the air, keeps any planned 'accidents' from happening). If it ain't broke, don't fix it. He can yell, you can go buy shoes. Everyone else is welcome to shake their heads in bemusement.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

The book looks great in the store. It was(obviously) with all the 'new fiction' front faced (as opposed to spine out) and really was a sunny presence among the gloomier looking covers.

Significant others are supposed to make you giddy, else what is the point? :-)

Huh, an Ohio redneck. Wonder if Jeff Foxworthy knows?

Have fun, eat, shop, sign, and remember these are the good old days.

Be sure to add DEAD AGAIN to your selection of noir films--it's one of my very favorites.

Enjoy your book tour, if you can :-). Wish you were coming to a town near me!

Yes, yes, Dead Again.

Can I encourage you to definitely write a sequel to Fast Women? I've reread it several times now and I think it's your most interesting book, and almost my favourite (Welcome to Temptation just can't be topped). I love the china especially, and I'm proud of the fact that I recognised it as Clarice Cliff from the description before you identified it!

When are you coming to Australia?

Love the Thin Man series. Sort of makes you wonder why everyone doesn't keep a bar at the foot of the bed and sleep in swishy feathered nightgowns.

Eileen, we do. Except in my case with bedsocks as well because I get cold feet. Sexy, eh?

I wish you both grace under fire, courage whilst facing the whirlwind, comfy beds and yummy roadfood, and enough time to yourselves over the next five weeks to maintain physical and mental health. Much love. I'll be waving my metaphorical pom-poms at ya from California - as we say in LA-LA land, break a leg.

Ha - me too mq.cb! My husband and I have a running joke about how I can't stand to sleep without socks on. He always tells me that nothing is hotter than a sexy nightgown with......socks! I remind him it could be worse = flannel and socks.

I must say, I am so very excited for this book and I agree that this blog made the time fly before the release date. You guys are hysterical. There is no way I am going to be disappointed on Tuesday.

For film noir spoof that is brilliant, brilliant - Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Hey Sheena, Jenny scheduled to come to Sydney RWAust conference in August next year at Coogee. So long, I know but it'll be worth the wait.

Don't worry, Jenny. I'm sure everyone would still talk to you. I mean, look at how popular Godzilla and The Thing are.

Happy touring!

Also? The book looks fantastic in the store and was utterly fabulous!

It's so weird to think that you're out there now, in the eye of the sotrm, so to speak. You both did a FABULOUS job with the book, the blog is amazing, you take the time to give back to your writing community... How can the tour be anything but fun? If things get out of hand, give the *eye* to a nearby Cherry, or a Cherry Bomb, and they will sneak you out the back door. All will be well, we promise!!

Eileen, don't you think that's asking too much of Bob?

I'm sure Bob could carry that off, if anyone could :)
