HE WROTE: Still, still alive

Yes, we're alive although one has to wonder about Jenny as she hacks and coughs. We're in New York City finishing a draft of Agnes. Well, I'm finishing, Jenny is rewriting and circling. I'm writing the climactic scene. For some reason it's as complicated as the climactic scene of DLD. Actually the reason is that we have to close out the two plots at the same time.

We attended the New Jersey RWA conference this past weekend and it was wonderful. Well run, great hotel, great people. Thanks to everyone who helped put it on.

We received a ride from an agent, Nadia Cornier, to and from the city. All I have to say is EZ Pass. Actually, we're grateful. Thank you, although she reacted like all the escorts we had on tour: telling us to stop bickering.

We're here in Greenwich Village until Wednesday. Some meetings tomorrow if Jenny is still alive. Otherwise I'll give her a Viking funeral down the street in the Hudson River. Then Wednesday on to Cincinatti (sp?-- that's the reason we don't set books there, I can never spell it right). We do a book event in Medina, Ohio, then on to the Columbus Ohio Fiction Writers Conference for the weekend. Then finally I get to go back home for a couple of days before off to Surrey, Vancouver for another conference. Then back home again for my writers retreat (two slots left) and then only two more conferences. It's been a long year of traveling. It will be nice to have the rest of November, December, and on into 2007 without having to travel.

Will post again when I have this climactic scene done and I finish the body count.

And I hope everyone made it safely home from the party and is enjoying the day off.

Glad to read the Bickersons have survived another leg of their seemingly never-ending LTD tour. No nagging Jenny until she is feeling better, it's only fair.

Sigh, you only spell Cincy wrong because you know sad little people like me will look at it, shake their heads in bemusement, and are then compelled to point out you spelled it wrong. With me it's a sickness. You, my friend, are just being a snot. (What? You were expecting a better word? I'm not a writer.)

Have fun in Ohio ... geez Medina, up near my neck of the woods, to Cincy is almost end to end. Make sure one in the body count isn't Jenny.

Bob,

Glad you survived. NJRW is one of my favorite conferences. Good people and I for one had a blast.

EZ pass is the best invention! Love it, Love it!

Nadia is the best. Love her to pieces.

Finish up the book, I can't wait to read it!

Only negative about the weekend...when I got home and was getting ready to head to Canada to watch my son play hockey, I got a call from my DH informing me that one of the other Dad's had his truck stolen. Two kids hockey equiment, gone. Laptops, ps2 and a bunch of other stuff, gone. Those two boys didn't get to play in the semifinal game, and well, while the team tried to sneak out a win, they lost 2-3 and came home last night. It was a difficult weekend for the boys. But everyone is home safe and sound.

Now, off to drive kids here, there and everywhere since they don't have school today.

Hello all!

Bob - thanks for blogging and giving us an update. Can't wait to read teasers about body counts and climactic scenes. Thought of you this weekend while I was at our Local County Fair. Saw a guy wearing a shirt lettered "Beware of the Clown Posse".

Jenny - hope you are feeling better really soon. Jenny, though of you also this weekend. At the Fair, I saw the entries in the National Wedding Cake Decorating Competition.

Traveling CBs - glad to hear that NJ was all you'd hoped it would be for you. Can't wait for more details when you've all rested and caught up on your everyday life.

Sorry I missed the virtual party. Finished roofing the front half of the house. Good thing too, it is supposed to rain this week.

FYI - anyone interested in good stories in a contemporary small Texas town, you should check out Marsha Moyer's "The Second Coming of Lucy Hatch" and "The Last of the Honky Tonk Angels". These are very, very good interconnected stories. I recommend reading them in order (Lucy then Angels)

Also, I happened across a bag (or two) or WHITE chocolate M&Ms. I felt duty bound to buy, test and report back to CBs. I'll let you know my findings.

Later, really must work now.

I have to say that Bob and Jenny are two of the most gracious authors I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. They are truly really nice people. Not to mention extremly talented, funny and well, just plain great.

Jenny and Bob, thanks for LIVING THE DREAM, and sharing it with all of us.

Hi there - I'm new here and have never posted before, but I had to come over to see what all the excitement was about, because I met this amazing bunch of ladies at the New Jersey conference, and had to come and post about it!

My friend Nancy somehow hooked up with the Cherry Bombs, and later found me all alone by the elevator, then took me to their room. I walked in to the smell of Chinese food, and lo and behold, there was wine provided by none other than Jenny and Bob, and the Bomb's were so kind to offer me a glass. We sat around talking for a number of hours, and I was amazed to discover half of the group had never met each other before, except for here at J&B's blog. I then became very motivated to come and see this wonderful place for myself.

It was wonderful meeting you ladies, and thank you so much for welcoming me into your group for the evening, and making me an honorary cherry bomber with the neclace. You were all so friendly and fun. And the vibrating bed story at the end topped it all off like a big red "cherry".

Julianne! You came back. I was afraid we'd scared you back to Atlantic Canada. Thanks for helping to even out the numbers. The Canadians were getting blamed for all the noise and security issues. Believe me, you and Nancy fit right in with the rest of the Cherrybombs.

Yumm Chinese Food. Thanks to Dee, I now understand Jenny's fuss over potstickers. And the wine was delightful.

Everybody - Julianne and Nancy were such great sports and fit in so perfectly ... um, that's a good thing, Juliane, really it is. No matter what you hear to the contrary.

Oh, AND, what Julianne didn't say is that she's a published author of historical romance set in, I think I remember this correctly but you know there was wine involved, Victorian England.

Hi all,

I've been tuning in to the Jenny and Bob show since the beginning, but this is my first post. I had a baby this spring (my first) and haven't been able to put a coherent sentence together since. Thank god I can still read.

How do I find out what bookstores Jenny and Bob will be hitting when they blow through a town? I'm hoping they'll stop at one in Seattle on the way to SIWC this year. I went to the conference last year, but I don't think they'd appreciate it if I showed up this year with a shrieking infant in tow. I'd really love to get a Moot stamp in my copy of DLD, though.

Geez, it's only been a day, but I really REALLY miss you guys. I know that I had to leave NJ, especially since everyone else was leaving as well (and we all now know that there is something wrong with that state, right?). However, I found myself opening my eyes this morning and wanting to grab my swimsuit for a few laps before breakfast, then head out to hear Jenny and Bob speak, and spend time with my friends (of which I now include Julianne and Nancy!).

All in all, I really can't wait until next year!

Bob and Jenny - NJ sounds like it must have been fun, but don't let fun get in the way of the goal, a finished Agnes. I try to remind myself of the goal, an empty laundry basket, not quite as compelling.
And really stop bickering, unless that furthers the goal, then bicker on!

Welcome back everybody and it's always nice to see someone new! Sounds like you had so much fun. Had to check out the pics from Jen, thanks for keeping the home bound from being left out. So great to put names with faces.

Missed the weekend must go check Bob's other post for the haps with all the non-Jersey folks.

Marcia - I graduated from OSU, and hope this doesn't offend, but I was sooooo glad OU went down in flames on Sat. I can't ever get Cowboy scores out here, so I'm not sure how they did, but it is always good when the sooners stink!

Check JennyCrusie.com for info as to where she'll be; I don't know how to find the schedule for the J&B show. Don't worry, someone here does know and will be happy to share. Because that's what we do here.

Both websites say they'll be at the Surrey conference, but they don't say if they'll be doing any bookstore signings along the way.

Thanks again for the welcome. It feels great to finally join the conversation!

Welcome Michelle and Julianne! It appears the CB recruiting efforts in NJ went well.

It appears that I have lost the ability to use eating utensils. Tried to scoop up a pierce of garlic chicken from my plate and instead shot it off the plate, bounced it off the chair and it landed on the floor along with some rice. Welcome to Julianne, and welcome down from the attic to Michelle. Michelle, you and I are both from the Seattle area. Don't know how many other CBs are from here, but if we can coerce Jenny & Bob to do a signing in the area, we can make a party of it. Unfortunately, if it isn't already a published stop, then the most they will probably do is stop at bookstores and sign stock. However, we can keep our ears open and go from there...

Sorry I missed the party this weekend (both of them). We are finally starting the kitchen remodel. No we are not doing it ourselves. I don't want to get a divorce. But even scheduling things takes a master of coordination. Luckily I can do that. My main goal is to keep DH as completely out of things as possible. It is his main goal too, so it shouldn't be too difficult. I'll let you all know how it goes...

Um yes there was wine from J&B. Apparently they got it from the conference folks but Jenny couldn't mix it with her cold meds (though you know it might have helped) and Bob of course is a beer man. So Bob toted the bottles into the lobby to hand out to whatever CB was crossing his path. Which was a switch from dodging behind things trying to hid from us. Didn't work anyway.

Just joking. Bob was very visible the whole weekend. And I saw Krissie several times but always from across the lobby. I had some books I really wanted her to sign but I though flinging myself into her path would not make the right impression. An accurate one, perhaps, but not the one I would want her to take away with her.

Oh, we forgot to mention that, yes we were drumming up CB business and business for the Crusie/Mayer writing partnership wherever we went thanks to Dee. She brought us all this adorable tote bags with FLAMINGOS! embroidered on the sides and trimmed in pink feathers! And we carried them whever we went. Can't speak for the other but I was asked several times "what's with the pink boa bags" so I had the fun of explaining that we were Bob and Jenny's very own CherryBombs. I'm sure Bob and Jenny were accorded much sympathy.

"To Marry the Duke" is the book Julianne Maclean had with her in NJ. As mcb said if you go to her website you will get her backlist. She is a lovely lady and I neglected to mention that, as is Nancy who said she will comment later.

gatorperson, Bob is not worried about the Lost problem and he said there is nothing to do. By the way, he really is a GAM and very much the gentleman. Quite gracious.

As for Jenny ...poor Jenny. I gave her a package of Fisherman's Friend and she said that one not only cleared her sinus' but those of everyone at the table. Good remedy used in this country. Don't know if you have it in the States.

I was really upset about the book signings because my vision was so bad I could not tell who was who.

Friday night I had been sitting beside Krissie- Anne Stuart-(whose books I have loved for a long time)and did not know it was her, although we had a nice conversation. Then I was speaking to her again at breakfast, and did know it was her, but did not see her at the signings and I wanted very badly to get a signed copy of one of her books. Quite a few missed opportunities.

I was happy to finally meet Nancy Herkness, of whom I have spoken before. Like with the Cherry Bombs, I have been conversing with Nancy via email for a long time but we had never met until this conference. She is as lovely in person as she appeared in her emails. We got to speak with each other several times at the conference and it is great to be able to call her my friend.

Are you tired of hearing all this stuff yet? Hope not because here comes some more. Kim, dee's friend is such a sweetheart. She fit right in with this crazy group but I must say she is a real southern lady. I liked her very much.

Now as for Gaby, Bryan's ex-Muse. She flew to NJ on money I sent her and met me Thursday night. cherry magic sheryl did not know that that was why I was getting up and going to bed at different hours than she was. It was so Gaby could have the bed to herself.

I don't remember anything in the rules about stealing Muses. I did not steal I made her an offer she could not refuse. And whose rules are these anyhow? I don't remember anyone setting down any rules. Okay, I buy the no foot stomping but that's it. Too bad, bryan.

Yes, we do. I've used them on and off for years. They are truly odoriferous, but they get the job done. When I was little, they used to have F&F cough drops, which my dad liked. I developed a tasted for them, but they are not for the faint hearted, assuming they're still avaiable.

Now go point out to your employers that technical writers who speak English as a first language are infinitely preferable to those of us who buy their products.

Wait! You're a tech writer, Mary? EEEEK! I don't know which is worse, trying to outsource tech writing abroad, or not hiring/laying off tech writers and having the engineers "write" the manuals. I saw a lot of that - why do we need tech writers when we have engineers who already know the code??? Uh, because English is our first language. I don't care where they were born, only about 5% of engineers can claim more than a nodding acquaintance with the language. EAT - English (as an) Alien Tongue.

And Welcome, Newbies and Lurkers!

So it now looks like Scotland is two weeks away. There have been delays with approval of the work permit, and it's been driving me nuts to not have the plan set. But a message today makes it sound like it's time to start looking at flights. And I've started looking into where I'll be living.

It hit me this weekend that I'm moving, actually MOVING, to a foreign country. Just not something one does everyday.

The good news is that my roommate is going to keep the kitty I rescued back in August, who has turned into quite the spunky little old lady.

Discovered a wierd thing about blogs today: if you write one, they will come. I put up a post about my dog search on my none-CB-cookie-biz blog, and someone from clear across the country, who does not appear to be a fellow CB, posted a comment about his dog search. How did he find me?

More importantly, does this mean the men-in-black are getting closer? I'm just getting used to Blooger's quirks - I don't want to get kicked back to lurker status now!

Just the lying down to stretch it out. I've done this a couple times before. When I was a kid taking ballet, everyone was jealous because I was so "limber." Well, when you're no longer a kid, limber translates to wispy connective tissue, and so I dislocate stuff and twist wrong and pinch a nerve, or pleat a meniscus. It's like I'm barely holding together. I'm used to it, though, so it doesn't happen too often. Thanks for the poor baby. It helps when you start to feel sorry for yourself to know someone else is taking care of that for you. /;+)))

Off topic but amazing - I just looked up my high school on Wikipedia to see who famous went there (besides me /;+). Carol Channing and Bill Bixby I knew, but Benjamin Bratt, Margaret Cho and the Lemony Snickett guy also graduated from there. Pierre Salinger, Diane Fossey, the Hewlett half of Hewlett-Packard, the current president of Yale. And me. Heh. I love Wikipedia.

OH: not that flexibility is bad, but being overly flexible can be difficult. Also not so great if you're too inflexible. So if you can convince your body to aim for somewhere in the middle of the bell curve, that would be best.

Sorry to hear cop-kicking grandma is ailing. Best wishes for her!

If it's any consolation, a few years ago I'd been trying to reach my parents on the phone and finally got my father who said, "Can't talk now. Your mom's in the hospital, my ride back there is waiting, I just stopped home to get her some clothes. Gotta go." To which I responded, "WAIT RIGHT THERE! Do not tell me she is in the hospital and you need to go WITHOUT TELLING ME WHAT IS GOING ON AND WHY SHE IS IN THE HOSPITAL." So I got an explanation, since I demanded it (urgent surgery having her gall bladder out, but not, say, life-threatening which is where my brain went when he said "hospital").

Parents. Jeez.

Now, try to touch your forehead to the floor. So, I'm an overachiever and determined to do it first try. Boy, did I ever. I saw stars and was woozy for a couple hours. /;+)

Now, if y'all will excuse me, I have to go wash my hands. I just rescued a fly from two spiders who were converging on it. Really grosses me out feeling them buzzing against my fingers as I'm trying to pick off the bits of spider web. But if you don't do that part, you might as well let the spiders have them. Ick.

Laughing hysterically now because what 11 year old boy talks about something "suiting" his mother

I had to save him. I'm sure they get lots of flies when I'm not around, but when I am, and I hear them buzzing, I've got to intervene.
