HE WROTE: 2007 Blog, coffee, etc. Happy Thanksgiving

Yeah, yeah, I had a blog all ready to post about the syllabus but of course, what’s-her-name posts first. Because she has little patience.

I’m trying to get Chasing The Ghost done in draft by the end of the week so I can print it out and do a line by line on it and then send it in next week. And I just got to a point where I have to write another dang sex-scene. Sigh. And no, I don’t need any help. Thank you very much. I’m very happy with the way the changes are tightening the book down.

As far as the blog in 2007. We’ll stick to topic but, of course, we’ll make snarky comments about whatever, like we did this year. Like writing the first book of our Sanctuary series. Book tour, if we do that again. Australia and New Zealand from which I fear only one of us is coming back alive. It’s going to be a very different year for us. A lot less conferences—right now all we’re doing together is Aust/NZ and the Low Country RWA retreat. That’s after doing like 22 together this year. But we will have to meet occasionally to discuss the book. I visualize something from the Cold War where they met at a bridge on a dark and foggy night and shoved the exchange prisoners across. Nah—probably in NYC at Charlie’s brownstone. Where we sit in the City That Never Sleeps and work on our laptops.

I keep thinking I have to go pack a bag for a flight—but I don’t. Weird. And nice. I think we were pretty fried. I lost a day this last week. I mean, literally lost a day. On Friday morning last week I was convinced it was Thursday. That was weird.

Oh—the coffee. Hey, I make my own. But we were leaving for the airport. And it was a joke. Geez. I used to carry instant coffee to the field in a baby bottle. Pour it in my canteen cup over a heat tab. That was apropos of nothing.

Anyway. Dorsai are characters in a Gordon Dickson series. Mercenaries. But since everyone made mock, no Dorsai Finn. I think Jim Finn has a nice ring to it. Originally the placeholder was the actor who plays House, but now I’m thinking Clive Owen. Or Moe from the Three Stooges. Decisions. Decisions.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving Bob, Jenny and all the CBS

Glad to know you are still alive and functioning after the moldy coffee. We were worried.

Lost a day huh.

Hey Bob, glad you didn't give up the ghost ... I mean, um, stop writing Chasing the Ghost. Looking forward to reading it.

Take the day off, eat turkey, watch some football ...

Happy Thanksgiving Jenny and Bob and all of the Cherry Bombs. And if you don't celebrate, Happy Thursday, and if you're in Australia, Happy Friday, and I could go on and on, but I won't. *grin*

HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Sounds like we know what Bob is thankful for.

Bob, I think I might have read a Dickson or two back when. SF not my top favorite genre, but a good book is a good book and I hit most of the better known SF authors.

Going to my aunt's house for TG this afternoon. We're providing the before dinner munchies and I just finished fixing a big plate of deviled eggs.

Bob, really looking forward to meeting Chase.

To all those celebrating today, be safe. Actually, that's good advice for everyone, wherever you are and whatever day it is.

I'm looking forward to meeting Chase too. And reading the YEX scenes. Anybody else notice he's leaving off the "yucky" description now.

I've been playing instead of writing today. Big family thing at 4 pm.

Hey now, we were not making mock. Dorsai is cool, so is Finn. Put them together... um, no. I've never been crazy about the name Jim. My DS is James and we called him Jamie until he met one too many girls with the same name. I also like Jack and Jake. As names, geez.

Glad to hear about the progress on Ghost -- for a while there I was worried you'd given up on it. And remember, sex scenes are not about sex. They're about... ahh... about... um... I can't remember. Something else. Ask Jenny, she knows.

What is the release date for Lost Girls again? Can't wait. I'm thankful to all of you who supply my strange need for words to read.

And I lost an entire year -- the year I was 39 I told anyone who asked that I was 40. Well, I thought I was. It was quite a surprise to me when I really did turn 40. I only pay attention to the details when they matter.

Right now I need to go pay attention to some details in the kitchen. I love the way Thanksgiving smells and tastes and the way it fills my house with noise and people, making memories for tomorrow.

The best part about Thanksgiving is seeing everyone stop and think about what they are thankful for. I am thankful for all of you CBs, for bring me a laugh whenever I needed it. My family (nuts, all of them), work I actually enjoy, books to keep my brain full, and my new oven which cooks my pies beautifully. 6 more last night. I'm off now to take them to the in-laws. Dinner in 2 hours. Can't wait. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Happy holiday, indeed.

Loved the image of the Cold War bridge in the fog and mist. My youngest and I just finished re-watching Smiley's People and it finishes (well, stops actually) with that image. So, like George Smiley, did you win? My son was not happy with the ending. I tried to tell him that the Cold War was like that -- you never knew the score and you didn't get to stop. You just went home (or not).

Wow. A post on Thanksgiving - that's the whipped cream on the pie!

Bob wrote: "I used to carry instant coffee to the field in a baby bottle."

A baby bottle? You've got to be kidding. And I thought I'd heard it all.

I hate when I loose days. Drives me nuts.

And BCB - I almost lost two years! My own mother sent me a birthday card a few years ago. It was a over the hill you're 40 card and inside she wrote she just couldn't believe that her baby was 40. I called her and asked her what year I was born in. She thought about it for a minute and said, "1964?" I pulled out my drivers license which clearly states I was born in 1966 (making me 40 now), scanned it and e-mailed it to her. She called me back a few moments later and said, "You're not 40 are you." I said, "Nope." I've never quiet gotten over that one.

Hope everyone had a good Turkey day. Have a great weekend! Think of me while I'm once again border hopping between ice rinks.

bcb thank you for the congratulations on the last post. I am married to a Jim and I like to call him Jamie when I am teasing him. He hates it. I used to say I was going to bed by asking him if Jamie was ready to put his jammies on. He wanted to deck me I know he did BUT he never did. He is a GAM because he takes alot from me.

I lose days and time. I think in my case it is old age.

Bob don't you know we are all waiting for Lost Girls and Chasing the Ghost would be nice too. I too wondered about the baby bottle. Didn't the other SF guys give you a hard time about it?

We did throw one the PREVIOUS YEAR. Then she claimed 30 again, until Sis #3 explained that there was three years between them and there was no way Sis #2 could be 30 if Sis #3 was 29.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

Hi OH Are you having fun being home for a few days. How was the Stones concert?

BCB Did your hordes leave the table top intact?

My oldest has to make weight Monday for wrestling so isn't eating a lot. Relativelly speaking. He's 6'3" or 4"
and is trying to wrestle at 171.

MCB have fun at the Cirque. I'll be thinking of you.

No one ever lets me forget how old I am. I've tried to drop a year but my sibs, mom and a friend who's a year younger always pop up to remind me my exact age.

Had a very nice Thanksgiving too. Got to see my second cousins' children. 5mo gir, 2.5 girl and their cousin who's 1.5 All three of them didn't bat an eye at 27 adults cooing over them and picking them up.

Funny story, S(2.5)went upstairs where my youngest and my brother's youngest, both boys 11 & 9, were playing. B(9)asks his sister if she's in charge of S. She says no and he says good. We all wondered about that but decided he wanted to be in charge. She played happily with dinosaurs, trucks and army men for a couple of hours. Then B comes downstairs, walks up to S's dad and her uncle and says "Which of you is in charge of S? She's stinking up the whole upstairs."

It was a good day with a lot of laughter. So many people that I didn't get to talk with anyone long. In fact, when my parents were getting ready to leave I realized I'd never even said hello to my dad. I'm going to try to set up a day where I can take them to lunch and visit with just the two of them.

I'm procrastinating because I'm not sure how to do the next scene in my book.

Heh heh. For those who don't know me, the comment doesn't refer to my sexual orientation, but the "outing" from anonymous rg to my writing psuedonym which links to my website. Back in the day of the "penibus" I got all upset about entries from the blog being displayed on google. That was way back when, and puhleeeese let's not go there again. Heh.

After the whole issue with Anne Stuart and the comments on Jenny's blog I decided to come back in from the shadows. If I want to comment on something I will, and I'll sign my name and be held accountable. Sqwark! Getting down off my perch ... ah ... I mean soapbox, now.

Hope everyone had fun yesterday. Guess you're all heading off to catch the post Thanksgiving sales. Me, I'm preparing my Golden Heart entry. Wish me luck, it's the one Bob said is confusing and suggested I simplify, simplify, simplify. I did, I did, I did. *grin*

Kaitlin, I'm glad I'm not the only one who had to work today. Didn't it feel like Monday all over again?

All the kids are eating out tonight, but they'll be back. And so far all table tops are unharmed, Robin, thanks for asking. I do have an extra child staying with us unexpectedly this weekend -- the result of one of those "you have got to be kidding" stories, which I might tell elsewhere.

Btuda: I liked the "I'm with Bob" shirt -- we should order one for Jenny. She can wear it in Oz next summer, er, winter. Maybe we should get two, in case one gets dirty.

I need food and an early bedtime. I wonder whether the kids left anything edible... I'm getting a visual of the Grinch absconding with the last crumb of the Whoville feast.

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving and a good day after. My sister and I putter around starting things on Wednesday, cook pretty much all day Thursday, then go to bed early in exhaustion. This year, we got a pasture-raised turkey and my sister heard on NPR that you were supposed to brine them (to tenderize), so we did - for the first time. Dunno which factor it was, but instead of being done a half hour early, it took an extra half hour, so we did get a bit of a rest in the middle ( I was sort of antsy, though!). For those who have not yet tried brining at home: do not use all turkey juice for the gravy - it was yummy on its own, but added up to a little too salty.

Then we went shopping Friday a.m. - but didn't leave 'til nearly 7, at which point the Wrentham, MA outlet mall had been open forever: they opened at midnight! Sheesh. It was pretty crowded (though still fairly easy to get a parking space), which it hasn't usually been 'til more like 9. We practiced our "I like to wait in the line" mantra on the way, and, except for Eddie Bauer, it wasn't too bad. We left at about 10, having finished with my mom and picked up some stocking stuffers. And the gingerbread construction kits. Then we spent some time online taking care of a couple more people. Wrapped a few things (I had brought most of my sister's family's gifts already in fabric bags, but with no labels, but it still took time to finish those off). Then we saw "Happy Feet". A good day.

I really enjoyed the movie, though I wouldn't have chosen all of the music. My niece and nephew liked it too, but the very small child in front of us (his first theater experience) didn't care for all of it - I don't know if he was scared or just overwrought, but the film was loud enough so that his meltdown didn't impact MY experience much (how's that for self-centered?).

Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys the weekend- especially those who have to work - I hope you make lots of money and are very productive and everyone is nice to you!

Oh, driving here I listened to Susan Cooper's "Grey King" - I've enjoyed that book for (geez) about 30 years (it's children's/ YA), but I think the reader was actually competent in Welsh (it takes place there, with scattered phrases) - it certainly sounded authentic!

No one here is up yet, so I was happy to read a post! Thanks, Bob!

ceaojv: Christmas Eve's arrival offered joyful visitors (sorry - I know it's too early, but I got it stuck in my head).

btuda I like the Bob Almighty shirt too. Interesting site.

SDCB I know you're having fun with the grandkids. We'll be better for the break won't we. Or that's what I keep telling myself. I've still got a lot to write before I can say the book's done.

I spent the day with one of my sisters and we had a great time to my surprise. She treated me to a lunch at an Inn that was fantastic. The shops in the small towns were full of interesting things but out of my price range. To give you an idea of their clientel, the wine and cheese shop we stopped in had Dom Perigon(?sp)on the shelf.

I've been reading a very helpful craft book Fiction by Michael Seidman. I can't remember if someone here recommended it or if it was on my chapter's loop but it's excellent. I'm going to buy my own copy since I checked this out of the library.

OH: I am not a big shopper or a person who likes crowds very much, but my sister and I have done this for the last several years as a way of getting around to at least starting our xmas shopping. We did Toys R Us once - NEVER AGAIN. The outlet mall doesn't get too crowded early, there's a Le Gourmet Chef and a Harry & David, so there are snacks (the first year we went, a kids' clothing store - which has since gone out of business- had homemade bread and coffee, which has made us feel positive about the experience ever since). Aside from Eddie Bauer, I don't think we had to wait in any lines of more than about 3 people, and we got in and out without having to wait really at all in traffic. I don't think we've ever spent more than 5 hours, and this year it was closer to 3.

Considering I've got the church xmas dinner to put on this weekend (with a holiday shopping boutique on Tuesday and a Session meeting on Wednesday), my own xmas party that will probably be on the 9th (it is not potluck and I make lots of fussy little fingerfoods that take a long time, like phyllo triangles and individual tarts and cakes) and, oh, yeah, WORK, I'm pleased that I am, if not caught up, at least in a pretty good place present-wise.
