SHE WROTE: Don't Panic

We're going to be doing some year-end maintenance on the blog for the rest of this weekend, updating some tech stuff, getting ready for the new year, and HWSW may disappear for awhile. We're doing that on purpose. Don't shriek at Blogger. In fact, you may just want to go away until Monday if logging on and finding nothing here raises your blood pressure because that's probably what's going to happen. We're telling you now, go read a nice book. Talk to real people in person. Eat something nutritious.

See you on Monday.

Watching Football, Christmas shopping online, reading Hot Toy again, Celebrating birthday 3 days early, enjoying unseasonably warm weather, re-arranging all my Jenny Cruise books in alpha order(from release order).....sigh
I guess I can last until Monday.
But it won't be easy.

Read a nice book? Ok folks, she's lost her mind. Obviously, she forgot that DLD was released back in April, Hot Toy has been out a few weeks, and we have NO NEW CRUSIE/MAYER books to read for at least half a year.
Read a nice book indeed!
Uh, Robin? Penny? Would you please mind e-mailing me your NaNo manuscripts so I'll have something to read over the weekend? I'm sure yours is going much better than mine, and I need something to break the sorry circle that is my life today... I'll be anxiously checking my e-mail for those mss...

The Cherry has ordered us to go read a book? Gee twist our arms.

The talking to real people thing, though ... I dunno. Real people are sooo annoying. I much prefer fictional characters.

Started my Christmas shopping with a trip to the bookstore. MC Escher drawings and a Terry Pratchett YA for one nephew. Magazines (and I think subscriptions to same) for baby sister. Book on fishing tall tales for my cousin's boy (who is heavily into tying flies just now).

Maybe when her zebra vaults.

I did buy two books for DH for Christmas today at a steamboat museum. Or maybe one is for him and one for me, I have to check it out.

I've obeyed most of Jenny's orders. Read a good craft book, talked to and had lunch with my sister and I ate a nutritous lunch. Glad the blog's here at the moment since I finished her list.

Dee the mss is nowhere ready for anyone else to see. It's also not finished. I'm hoping to finish the first draft before Christmas. Then it's going to need massive rewriting. Hope your day got better. Sending positive vibes.

Jenny, you crack me up. I come over here to take a wee break from all my real people, who are demanding non-stop nutritious food, in between bursts of writing what I hope will be [my definition of] a nice book, before I go finish reading someone else's nice book, and what do I hear? Go back and do it all over again? Geez, I'm sooo tempted to do a childish version of "you can't make me."

If this blog didn't go out of commission every once in a while we wouldn't know what to do.

Happy birthday to all of us Sags: Wapak, didn't know that included you as well, but happy day to the rest of us too: G-G, MCB, Christina (the other one), Zaza and me (no, not ME, me, well maybe ME too).

I got a very nice B-day present this year, even though it's not quite my birthday yet. It involved having to go apply for an expedited passport yesterday. I'm very excited. More later, when it's too late for those humourless HS guys to put a stop to it [grin].

Right now I guess I have to go back to all those hungry real people.

If you think I won't be back before Monday... Huh. Really, all you imaginary friends should know me better than that by now.

After an exhausting day helping move some wonderful friends, I was thrilled to come home and see the blog still functioning. For now. Just finished a Very Good Book late last night - Time off for Good Behavior by Lani Diane Rich. Man did I laugh. I'm going to steal back my copy of Santa Baby from my housemate, then take a bat (so pronounced by the Irish gentleman who was laying carpet as we moved furniture around him)

Now what?

And it just so happens that I went to the library today so I'm going to go obey my favorite part of Jenny's orders. (g) Maybe with a glass of wine ... hey, it comes from fruit so its nutritious. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

In a perfect example of the bad behaviour Bob and Jenny will not permit in next year's blog:

Major Accomplishment today! I ran the whole way 'round the lake without stopping! That's 2.7 miles in 30 minutes (11 minute mile), so I won't be participating in the Beijing Olympics or anything, but it's a major accomplishment for me. It was one of my goals and I have actually managed it. Another goal was running (however slowly) for 30 minutes without stopping, so I can tick that box as well.

The best part is that this means my quad/hip flexor/knee aches and pains must be on the wane. Woohoo! Now that's a birthday present!

And happy birthday to all the other autumn/winter babies!

Um, would someone please tell my husband that Jenny says I can sit down and read a nice book?! He thinks that on my day off I should be "productive". Productive. You know what? I was "productive" twice in my life--once I "produced" DD#1 and the other time I "produced" DD#2. I think that is enough "production" in my life, thank you very much!! *tongue firmly in cheek*

Actually he thinks I should be doing things like cleaning the house, raking the yard, doing laundry--yeah, I know, I find that really funny also!

But I did blow the leaves off of the front lawn AND I washed my van (no small feat!) AFTER I worked today from 7AM-230PM. So I think I earned the "read a good book" part of Jenny's command. Don't think I want to talk to anymore "real" people today.

And by the way, I thought Cherry Bombs were "real" people? I mean, I hear that some of y'all have even MET each other--in PERSON. Doesn't that make us real? Or are we figments of Bob and Jenny's fertile imaginations? Do I even exist? How do I know I exist? If I don't exist, does that mean I don't have to go back to work on Monday?! *grin*

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

No writing today either. Had to take Sarah to the Santa Claus parade. She says it was the first for her "EVER" so she was quite happy to see Santa and Mrs.Claus at the end of the parade. She knew the parade, which had stalled for several minutes, was not over because she had not seen Santa yet. Smart cookie.

Still plan to finish my book. It will need major rewrites I think. And many of them.

See you on Monday, all.

Ooooh, Robin [jumping up and down with excitement]. I am so good at writing irate customer letters. Do you need help? I once wrote a letter that netted a fancy new stove from Sears at the price they advertised (big, big ad typo on their part) and a new kitchen floor (they damaged the old one) and a phone call from a VP in the Sears head office offering me his most abject apologies and a job should I ever want to relocate to Chicago. He said it was the best damn letter he'd ever read. Said he'd never seen anyone raked over the coals quite so fluently. You go, girl.

And welcome to all the damn lurk-- um, no, wait a minute, must be nice. Try again. Welcome newcomers! Didn't we clear out the attic last month? Cary? How many more were up there?

G-G and Sheri: You are both an inspiration. I will go do something productive tomorrow. Really. Right after I re-read some Camus and figure out whether I have to go to work on Monday.

I've heard we CBers are real. Some have met on purpose. I bet I've probably met some other CBers and just don't realize it.

I'm reading Tara Jantzen's Crazy Sweet. It's a good book, although I don't know whether I'd describe it as nice. I think Jenny meant 'nice' the way that my grandmother used to say she'd fix us a nice sandwich. I mean, really, can a sandwich ever not be nice? Would my grilled cheese sit on its plate and mock me? Okay, clearly I've been awake too long. Now I'm thinking of that grilled cheese sandwich that sold for $12K on ebay and then toured the country because some woman thought she saw the image of the Virgin Mary on it. I supposed that would definitely qualify as a nice sandwich.

I hear that woman took a picture of the Holy Grill into the tattoo artists of Miami Ink so they could tattoo it on her body.

Hi CB pen. Glad you came out of the attic long enough to introduce yourself. Come down more often. You know on the JCF site they say welcome to the orchard. What should we say? Welcome to the shooting gallery, obstacle course, bomb site? Of course after next month we can say welcome to the bar and grill.

BCB I'd love help with the letter. These guys have pushed us too far and we're stopping it now!

DUG hope work is busy enough to keep you awake but not busy enough to run you ragged.

OH glad you've had fun with your friends this weekend. Do you go back to school today?

People are nuts. That's the only explanation for paying $12K for a grilled cheese sandwich.

Louis thanks for the info on the new Bond. I'd like to see this one. Scheduling a time when all of us can go will be challenging but hey what's life without a few challenges.

MCB - good job, you're starting with either #1 or #2 (# 1 may be Crazy Hot), there are a total of 5, with Crazy Sweet being very recent (early this month). I had seen them but not picked 'em up, then had them passed on by a friend, and have now bought two, so, while they're not Jenny Crusie, I find them pretty enjoyable.

Hi to CBPen and Happy B-day to all the Sagittarians! I had a friend in 6th grade whose b-day was 11/26, so happy b-day to Clare, too. Since we mostly don't have real names up here, it seems as if birthdays shouldn't be a problem - or we could just do it by Zodiac sign or month.

Many congratulations to Glamour Geek for her running prowess, and BCB on her forthcoming mysterious foreign travel, and to the rest of you who have been VERY PRODUCTIVE and deserve a break. And some chocolate. And maybe a nice massage from a handsome man. Depending on your definition of nice.

DUG, "on the cusp with cap"??? That sounds rude and lewd. /:+) What does it mean?

OH, yes, we'll have a calendar with that kind of stuff in it eventually, which leads to...

BUSINESS:

We'll be building a database of CB info. You guys will be responsible for filling in your own info. We'll be asking for everything but your back teeth, but it's all OPTIONAL. You won't have to enter anything you don't want us to have. It will be secure in our database, but we totally understand if anyone is reluctant to give out the info.

This database will not be open to the public, like the Cherry one on Yahoo. Ours will be hidden and only the managers will have access to the info. It will be used for things like building a calendar, but I'll post something about what each piece of info might be used for when we get closer to the reality.

GatorPerson will be building it, and Lori and BCB have volunteered to assist. Thanks all of you!

There'll be a form for you to fill in. If you don't want to, you don't have to. And if you change your mind later, you can do it then. Birthdays will be on the form, for later inclusion in a calendar. You won't need to give the year, just the day and month, so anyone who wants to can keep their age a mystery.

See, GP, it was already in my head. /:+)

END BUSINESS:

Eat something nutritious? Good lord. I've been on the road since Friday! With teenagers! Okay, we eat at Subway once, does that count as Nutritious? Mostly it was junk food. And more junk food.

Happy birthday to anyone with a birthday coming soon.

MCB - e-mail privately. I think I forgot to give you money for the web thingy in NJ. I need to send it to you. Thanks.

Thanks for the movie tips. I really want to see the queen, well not the Queen, but it would be fun, wouldn't it. I would take her a new purse, hers are ALWAYS dowdy. And I worried about the new Bond. In my house of men, Sean Connery is God as Bond, so I haven't heard from them yet.

I don't know how to do the certificate. I am computer illiterate. I didn't get anything until I registered my last word count which was over 53,000 then the You Won came up with all the appropriate certificates etc. Apparently they do not recognize your plus 50,000 until after Nov.25 or so I was told. LMAO SDCB

I just stayed up all night reading the WWW Club by Anita Notaro. Funny, touching, LOL and cry. I loved it and strongly recommend it. I tried to find a way to contact her to tell her but couldn't find an address so I'm going to have to send a snail mail letter. I might remember to mail it by March.

I'm planning to write some more SDCB then send in my totals. But first I need to get an hours sleep.

Passports and Canada - they pushed that back to 2008 - but yes, I've applied for passports for the kiddos and me since I've never actually left the country - other than Canada and Jamacia and you only needed a birth certificate for those.

SDCB - Sorry, yes I was in Canada, but didn't stay. We were in Hamilton then I raced back across the border (had to drive to the peace bridge because of long lines at the other two) to Niagara Falls to watch my other kid play then raced back to watch DD play and then home. It was one of those things where we woke up and flipped a coin on who was going with whom. Don't worry, I'll be back.

Next weekend I get to take a bus with the team to Philly or Pittsburg? Hell I forget which city, but somewhere in PA - on an F. Finn bus! Why? Why take a bus? We did this with middle boys team one year - in a snow storm - it sucked. Yeah, I'm cranky this morning.

But seriously, 26 CBs sent contributions to the cause, in varying amounts, to a total of $136. Wow. Some of those were paypal credit card transactions which required a small fee for processing (pennies folks, don't sweat it). Zaza was reimbursed for purchases in connection with the website, and I was reimbursed for the rental on the p.o. box. The $81.68 is what we have left over for future expenses.

So unless Zaza thinks we'll need more later, nobody should feel obligated at this time.

Hmm, I loved one through four, but my personal book jury is out on Crazy Sweet. Book is good, but I think I found the secondary characters more interesting and anticipate they'll have their own book in the future.

Regarding money: I feel awful that I didn't contribute. Add me to the list of people to hit up for website contributions in the future. Do you take PayPal? Ha! That question reminds me of my short career in retail sales. I occasionally worked at a Lenox clearance center to supplement my freelance writing income. Jenny said to go eat something nutritious. Ok. Is pumpkin pie considered a vegetable or a fruit?

She also said to go read a good book. To my frustration, I'm missing two of my boxes of books from the move. Naturally all the books I thought about rereading were in those boxes.

We had a good Turkey Day over here. The weather was mild enough so we didn't have any weather worries as the parental units traveled up from Tennessee. We had a great visit, despite my sister, the Kenmore Agitator. Sheesh. I swear, I simply cannot wait until she is actually responsible for someone other than herself. Then I can call her up and demand to know why she hasn't loaded up the car with her family two minutes after she got home from work.

Robin: I get to write a snarky letter today too. We received a letter from DH's ex's attorney on Friday demanding financial info to re-evaluate child support. Snort. Nice warm color, but soooo not me. I think I'll go back to Outback Aphridisac (yeah, spelling, I know) and I'm still pissed they cancelled the kinky color!

Okay I need help. My DS13 has to do a book review. It has to be a Science Fiction book review. I've given him a couple that I think are okay for his age group (yes some are Bob's), but does anyone have any suggestions? I really think the ones I gave him are way over his head, but I could be wrong. Then again most of my conversations with this kid are something like, "get a life mom", "huh? did you say something?" and "did you check out those headlights?" Like I don't know what that means! I'm so in trouble with this one.

anyway, if you have a suggestion for a teen science fiction book just e-mail me. Thanks.

Dislikes: when my toe nail color doesn't show my true personality. That and distracting phone calls that end up with the garage door closing on top of my car.

Favorite author - I'm a suck up - Bob and Jenny - among others.

Favorite of the five heads: The one right in the middle, the other four are hidden most of the time, except for that nasty morning hour, then I advise all to say the heck away.

Boy, a week and a bit is a LONG TIME in blogger world. I have not read all the comments, but did read the posts from our fearless leaders.

Thanks all for the kind thoughts about my driving while crying, and my mom. She passed away the day after I got there and I had one meltdown day. Then life started happening -- like going from having no turkey day to having 18 for Thanksgiving. Not to mention the funeral and stuff. The family gathering was really great and overwhelming.

I am home now trying to remember what to do. Checking the blog seemed to be right up there with checking my e-mail.

Congrats to those who have reached their 50,000 (now finish the *&J#$ story). The Finn jokes were great. The schedule for the new blog made me somewhat apprehensive about our Bar and Grill relocation, but I know we will hear about it when it happens, right?

P.S. the JAK was a release of one of her (bad) books from 1983 (for the bargain price of $15). Hard to throw the ipod against the wall, but it was a distraction for the drive up and back. I think I have not yet become accustomed to the idea of spending $25 for a book you download to your Ipod. ??? WTH? It did serve its purpose.

PSS I think I am cried out for awhile, but you never know what will set you off. I watched Hallmark Hall of Fame last night about young woman with cancer and cried. But it was a normal cry, not ... well you know.

thanks again all

Lori: What do you mean, I'll have to make a banner? Like in a craft project? With construction paper and markers? [shudder] First of all, I don't do craft projects. Ever. Second, my penmanship is so bad, the banner would probably read "Blame Luxembourg" and it would start an international incident. They could probably do with a little excitement over there, but I'll pass. I'm in enough trouble already. I guess I'll just have to shoulder all the blame myself. Good thing I'm used to it and just don't care anymore.

Speaking of which, and since I'm maybe the only one who can get away with it, here is the REAL profile:

Jen-T

Age: younger than BCB

Height: shorter than BCB (who really is above average in many ways)

Sign: mis-spelled and indecipherable, but it's written in Ionian and glows in the dark

Likes: being younger and shorter (and more average) than BCB, hockey, long distance cell phone calls

Dislikes: damn near everything (sharks, Kermit, dark lakes, lawnmowers, garage doors, carpooling, cooking, sitting quietly...)

Favorite authors: Bob, Jenny, Nelson, Harlan, BCB, anyone else whose characters die bloody gruesome deaths

How's that? Sound like our Jen? I probably left some stuff out. On purpose. Hey, I'm not crazy. I mean, have you seen this woman when she's angry?

And, FYI and FTR, if you figure out too much about how to use acronyms, none of us will understand you anymore. It made perfect sense to me. Of course, you and I speak the same language. That helps.

Good luck with the "I don't want it but I need it so I don't have to clean my room" job interview. I've heard it's very similar to the "I can't stand it but I've got to keep it so I can pay for the room" job performance review that you'll have to worry about in six months or so.

I'm not quite exhausted enough to justify avoiding it, so I'm going to go write now.

BCB: Got an acronym quote for you from Good Morning, Vietnam:

Adrian Cronauer (Robin Williams): Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Ah, yes, but do they have a sense of humour?

Btuda: I have no idea whether it's from anything other than my poor tired brain, but anything's possible -- it was the first "L" country that popped into my head and I thought: yep, if I wrote "Lori" on a banner, it would look like "Luxembourg." Of course, now that I think about it, the "blame" part probably would have looked like "blitzkrieg" -- this is why I don't do craft projects.

Jen-T: Science fiction books for your son. Well, there's the classic 'A Wrinkle in Time' by Madelyn L'engle. Another book by her, 'The Arm of the Starfish' he also might like, and I think it could be considered science fiction. Hmmm, a very good but kind of dark book is 'Ender's Game' by Orson Scott Card. Actually, that might be the book I would suggest first. I don't think it would be too much for a 13 year old boy, but I don't know your son. I like a lot of books by Anne McCaffrey, but I can't imagine them appealing to him, for some reason.

Sigh...I know that there's more, but none that I can think of off the top of my head that I would recommend to a young teenage boy.

And it just occurred to me that you went to the library yesterday. Well, I'll still post this just in case he hasn't picked a book yet.

SF is one of the few genres i don't read (love fantasy- well, certain authors at least) but i just never got into SF. IIRC, someone said good stuff about If Sheep Dream.....or is it If Android's Dream of Sheep...something like that. of course library trip was yesterday so....just never mind.

Asimov's 'I, Robot' is also interesting and very good. It's also not terribly long. (Not sure if your son's a big reader, Jen.) Also if he likes Star Wars, the trilogy by Timothy Zhan, which chronologically follows the first three movies, are also very good. I think the first book is 'Dark Force Rising', but I'm not 100% sure. There's also 'Dune' by Frank Herbert.

Ok, stopping now. I'm feeling the urge to read SF now, for some reason. Too bad all those books are in boxes at my parents.
